This drug is combination of a type of sulfonamide (sulfadiazine) and diaminopyrimidine (trimethoprim) that inhibits PABA enzyme in folic acid synthesis process which results to stop bacterial vital activity. Both of these substances have synergistic effect that lead to inhibits dihydrofolic acid formation which is necessary for nucleic acid synthesis.
In treatment of acute, sub acute and chronic diseases susceptible to sulfadiazine and trimethoprim in horse, cattle, dog and cat. Therapeutic spectrum of this drug includes some species of Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, E.Coli, Actinobacillus, Actinomyces, Klebsiella, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, Proteus mirabilis, Pasteurella, Enterobacter aerogenes, Haemophilus influenza, Vibrio, Brucella and Corynebacteriums. It is effective in trearment of urogenital, digestive and respiratory infections also in laminitis, synovitis, mastitis and eye, ear and mouth infections.
Cattle: 1 ml per 16 kg body weight through IM or slow IV injection
Horse: 1 ml per 16 kg body weight through slow IV injection.
Dogs and cats: 1 ml per 8 kg body weight through subcutaneous route.
Recommended place for injection in dog is dorsal skin of neck.
Beef: 10 days after the last injection.
Milk: 3 days after the last injection.
Do not use in animal with renal or hepatic failure and also in case of hypersensivity to sulfonamides.
Long term usage leads to folic acid reduction, blood dyscrasia and crystalluria. Local inflammation in injection site and shock after rapid intravenous injection are possible.
Keep between 15-25° C and away from direct lights.
