Product properties

Composition

Each ml of Niclosol® suspension contains 200 mg niclosamide.

Mechanism of Action:

Niclosamide is an antiparasitic substance belongs to the chemical class of the salicylanilides have efficacy against certain roundworms, tapeworms and/or flukes. Niclosamide is a narrow-spectrum anthelmintic effective against some tapeworm and fluke species.

Niclosamide is a good taenicide (= tapeworm killer) effective against several parasitic tapeworms of livestock (e.g. Taenia spp, Moniezia spp) and also against rumen flukes (Paramphistomum spp) and blood flukes (Schistosoma spp). The molecular mode of action of salicylanilide, including niclosamide, is not completely elucidated. They all are uncouplers of the oxidative phosphorylation in the cell mitochondria, which disturbs the production of ATP, the cellular “fuel”. This impairs the parasites motility and probably other processes as

well. Niclosamide acts on the tapeworms also through inhibition of glucose absorption.

After oral administration niclosamide is only marginally absorbed into the bloodstream. Absorbed niclosamide is quickly metabolized and excreted. Unabsorbed niclosamide remains vastly unchanged in the digestive tract and is quickly excreted through feces. This low absorption allows a high safety margin for use on animals.

Indications of use

Worm remedy against tapeworms in sheep, goats, calves and immature conical fluke in sheep and goats. Can be used for animals of all ages and pregnant animals.

Dosage and route of administration

Sheep, goats and calves:  1 ml per 4 kg orally.

For animals under 20 kg live mass, niclosamide suspension  may be diluted with an equal volume of water. The dose must then be doubled, e.g. 10 kg lamb, dose 5 ml of the mixture.

Withdrawal Time

Meat : 7 days
