Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that prevents the growth of bacteria through binding  to the 30s ribosomal subunit and inhibiting the protein synthesis(it is a bacteriostatic   antibiotic).

It is effective on gram negative bacteria like different species of  Pasteurella, Salmonella ,E.coli and gram positive bacteria like different species of Streptococcus, Staphylococcus ,Clostridium and other microorganisms including  Mycoplasma  , Ricketsia ,Chlamydia and   some protozoans.

Indications of use

Use for the treatment and control of furunculosis due to Aeromonas salmonicida and different species of Yerisinia ,Vibrio and Myxobacteria  in trout  and salmons.

Dosage and route of administration

The product is given by oral administration at a rate of 75 mg per kg bodyweight of fish daily for initially 4 days. After the initial treatment, mortality  should be assessed and a further 4 day treatment course should be administered if necessary.

Rotet 100® is for administration only through the feed by mixing with manufactured feed prior to feeding. Feeding rates will vary according to water temperature and it may therefore be more convenient to medicate on the basis of a fixed rate e.g. 1% of bodyweight, with the extra daily feed requirement being met by unmedicated food. The following inclusion rates will provide the recommended dose:

  Powder inclusion rate
Daily feed  percentage amount based on bodyweight per 5 kg of feed per 25 kg of feed per ton of feed
0.5 75 g 375 g 15 kg
1 37.5 g 187.5 g 7.5 kg
2 18.75 g 93.75 g 3.75 kg

Method of mixing

Weigh out appropriate amounts of fish pellets and product and mix well together in the dry state. As an aid to the adhesion of the product to the fish pellets, a small quantity of edible oil is then added to the food while mixing.

Withdrawal Time

Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption during treatment. Fish may be slaughtered for human consumption from 720° days after the last treatment. For example if the water temperature is 16 degree Celsius ,the withdrawal period is 720÷16=45 day.

The fish should not be used for human consumption during the treatment .

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
