Product properties

Composition

Each ml Contains 0.8 mg Ivermectin

Mechanism of Action:

Ivermectin is a member of the macrocyclic lactone class. Ivermectin acts as agonist of the GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) neurotransmitter in nerve cells and also binds to glutamate-gated chloride channels in nerve and muscle cells of invertebrates. In both cases it blocks the transmission of neuronal signals of the parasites, which are either paralyzed or expelled out of the body, or they starve. Paralysis and death of the parasite is as the result of an increase in the permeability of the cell membrane to chloride ions with hyper polarization of the nerve or muscle cell.

In mammals the GABA receptors occur only in the central nervous system (CNS), (in the brain and the spinal cord). But mammals have a so-called blood-brain barrier that prevents microscopic objects and large molecules to get into the brain. Consequently macrocyclic lactones are much less toxic to mammals than to the parasites that do not have such a barrier, which allows quite high safety margins for use on livestock and pets.

Since flukes and tapeworms do not use GABA as a neurotransmitter Ivermectin is ineffective against these parasites.

Indications of use

For the treatment and control of gastro-intestinal nematodes (adult and immature), lungworms (adult and immature) and all larval stages of nasal bots of sheep (Oestrus ovis).

Dosage and route of administration

Dosage:

2.5 ml per 10 kg bodyweight (corresponding to the recommended dose rate of 0.2 grams Ivermectin per kg bodyweight), administered orally with a dosing gun.

The dosing gun should be calibrated sufficiently accurately to ensure precise dosing of young sheep.

To ensure administration of a correct dose, bodyweight should be determined as accurately as possible; accuracy of the dosing device should be checked.

Do not mix with other products.

Administration:

Give as an oral drench.

Withdrawal Time

Meat and offal: 6 days after the last treatment.

Do not use in lactating animals producing milk for human consumption.

Precautions

This product can be administered to ewes at any stage of pregnancy.

This product has been formulated specifically for use in sheep. It should not be used in other species, as severe adverse reactions, including fatalities in dogs, may occur.

Do not smoke, eat or drink while handling the product.

Wash hands after use.

Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

In case of accidental spillage onto the skin or eyes, wash the affected area with clean running water immediately. Seek medical attention if irritation persists.

Environmental Safety:

When Ivermectin comes in contact with the soil, it readily and tightly binds to the soil and becomes inactive over time. Free Ivermectin may adversely affect fish and certain water-borne organisms on which they feed. For this reason dispose the empty containers in an approved landfill or by incineration.

Storage conditions

Do not store above 25°C. Protect from direct sunlight.
