Composition
Each ml contains 300 mg Florfenicol
Mechanism of Action:
Florfenicol attaches to 50s ribosomal unit and inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria.
After intramuscular injection, about 79% is absorbed into the blood. The distribution in body is suitable and its concentration reaches therapeutic level even in CSF. Half life of this drug in blood serum is about 18 hours. Florfenicol is less absorbed in cats and dogs, and its half life in these animal’s blood is about 5 hours.
Indications of use
Cattle: Treatment of BRD caused by Pasteurella haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida and Haemophilus somnus
Dog and cat: Treatment of systemic infections, especially when chloramphenicol cannot be used because of its myelotoxic property.
Dosage and route of administration
Cattle: 20 mg/kg through IM (intramuscular) in neck muscle, repeat injection after 48 hours.
40 mg/kg SC (subcutaneous), one injection in neck region.
Do not inject more than 10 ml in each point.
Dog: 20-25 mg/kg IM or SC.
One injection every 8 hours for 3-5 days.
Cat: 20-25 mg/kg IM or SC. One injection every 12 hours for 3-5 days.
Precautions
Do not inject by IV (intravascular) route.
Do not advice this drug in over 20 months old cows.
Anorexia, reduction of water consumption and inflammation in injection site are its side effects that recovered gradually.
If injection site is another site other than neck area, inflammatory reaction will be more severe.
Withdrawal Time
Beef: 28 days after IM injection and 38 days after SC injection.
