Product properties
Composition
Sulfamet Rooyan®
Each ml of oral suspension contains:
400 mg Sulfadiazine (as sodium) and 80 mg Trimethoprim
Mechanism of Action:
Trimethoprim is a synthetic antibiotic and antimicrobial drug and has a powerfull effect against gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
One of the specific feature of this product is that overdose consumption, does not have any side effect.
Trimethoprim as a Dihydrofolate reductase enzyme which converts Folic acid to Folinic acid plays a sensible role on reproduction and microbial metabolism. Sulfadiazine duplicate the antimicrobial action of Trimethoprim.
Sulfadiazine has a similarity to PABA and when sulfonamide has a sufficient concentration it blocks PABA conversion to folic acid. Thus, in the first stage sulfadiazine eliminate microbial metabolism and if possible. In the next metabolism stage, Trimethoprim will prevent the Folic acid becoming to Folinic acid.
Trimethoprim quickly absorbed through the digestive system and its concentration reaches to highest level in blood after three hours.
Trimethoprim quickly absorbed by tissue so that the amount of it in tissue is more than blood and in kidney and lungs, the larger value is reported than the other tissue.
Half-life is approximately 10 hours and 40-50 percent will be excreted without metabolism in urine.
