Composition

Each ml contains 50 mg Tylosin.

Mechanism of Action:

Tylosin is an antibiotic which belongs to macrolides group and from structural viewpoint it is similar to Erythromycin. This antibiotic is produced by streptomyces fradiae. Tylosin is a bacteriostatic antibiotic. Tylosin attaches to 50s ribosomal unit and prevents bacterial protein synthesis. Tylosin is rapidly absorbed after injection. Diffusion of this drug in body is suitable but doesn’t penetrate into CSF. 8 hours after injection, tylosin concentration in the milk is about 4 times more than its concentration in the blood. Amount of Tylosin in the lung tissue is several times more than its concentration in serum. Tylosin excreted by bile and urine.

Indications of use

Tylosin is used for treatment of infections due to Gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Corynebacterium spp. and some Gram negative bacteria  (with the exception of coliforms), Spirochete spp., Chlamydia and specially

Mycoplasma. Generally this drug is applied for treatment of these diseases:

Cattle and Calves: Pneumonia, pneumo-enteritis, calf diphtheria, contagious

pleuro-pneumonia, arthritis, foot rot, uterine infection and mastitis caused by Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.

Sheep: Acute and contagious agalactia resulting from Mycoplasma agalactiae, pneumonia and mastitis.

Goats: Contagious ovine pleuro-pneumonia caused by capri variety of Mycoplasma mycoides.

Dosage and route of administration

Cattle and Calves: Daily 10 mg/kg body weight for maximum 5 days through intramuscular injection.

Sheep and Goats: Daily 10 mg/kg body weight for maximum 5 days through intramuscular injection.

Withdrawal Time

Cattle : Milk:72 hours   Meat:7 days

Sheep : Milk :48 hours    Meat:3 days

Precautions

Do not use this drug in animals with hypersensitivity to tylosin. Due to fatal diarrhea in horse using of this drug is absolutely forbidden.

Don’t use this drug in dairy cattle and during lactating period. Injectable tylosin should be used only by intramuscular injection. Avoid contacting this drug with skin .Don’t inject more than 10 ml in one site.

If improvement is not obtained for 3-5 days after drug administration, it is advised to revise diagnosis and treatment. Pain and inflammation resulting from injection and mild

gastrointestinal disorders like diarrhea and anorexia have been reported.
